The Weeknd’s ‘Blinding Lights’ Overtakes Ed Sheeran’s ‘Shape of You’ for Spotify’s Most Streamed Song of All-Time


The Weeknd’s 2019 hit ‘Blinding Lights’ has officially overtaken Ed Sheeran’s 2017 popular ‘Shape of You’ to reign atop the Spotify mountain, claiming the title of the platform’s most-streamed song of all-time.

It’s a big win for The Weeknd, who beat out Sheeran who became the first artists to reach 100 million Spotify followers last year.

As of January 2nd, 2023 – Sheeran’s “Shape of You” (2017) had 3,332,970,120 Spotify streams racked up while Weeknd’s “Blinding Lights” (2019) had amassed a whopping total of 3,334,180,640 streams.

It demonstrates not only the popularity of the artists, but also the power of the Spotify platform which features artists around the world, and music streamers featuring an eclectic mix of music from various genres.
